Our Trial - December 15-20

Our next onward journey was to Gujarat visiting Baroda and Ahmadabad cities. Shraddhanjali wanted her families to meet me and Gopeesha who were coming to India for the first time. Fortunately we were able to secure accommodation at Iskcon Baroda Temple so we could spend some at the temple and with the devotees.

This temple is set on a large property with a goshala on premise. The main entrance is an attraction as one can see the deities from the roadside which is about 200 feet away from the temple. The main deities here are, Sri Sri Radha Shyamasundara, Sri Sri Gaura Nitai and Sri Jagannatha, Baladeva and Lady Subhadra. There is a huge congregation here who come for the morning and evening programs. Temple president, His Grace Basu Ghosh Prabhu had done a great amount of work to develop Krishna consciousness in this area. There are nice gardens and open land available for renting, a snack bar and a wonderful book/ gift store. Off course not forgetting the nice guests rooms to accommodate (western) guests like us.

Our routine was to attend morning programs and leave for visiting families. Our target was to leave for Ahmadabad on early Thursday morning as we had booked our tickets from there to Indore.

The roads were too dusty for us and we used to drive for more than an hour to visit some families. Sometimes we thought we should abandon visiting and spend more time at the temple but then it was the only place where we had families plus we didn't know when we would come back again.

Maybe we had
unnecessarily meditated of not getting sick during our India trip so after our driving around for the 2 days I found myself having an itchy throat. I know it sounds little superstitious but I developed a viral infection and had high fever almost losing my voice. Shraddhanjali and Gopeesha also started to develop symptoms. It didn't get any better after a day and a half and devotees at the temple had to take me to the doctor. He prescribed the same medicine for both of us and a child dose for Gopeesha.

Both of us became concerned as the next 2 stops were very very important to us. In Ujjain Shraddhanjali wanted to spend quality time with her spiritual master and then I was worried about having good association with my spiritual master in Vrindavan. The medicines started to work soon but unfortunately we couldn't leave for Ahmadabad until Friday 1.00pm only to wake up at 4.00am next morning to catch our flight to Indore.

I guess it was a trial of not spending more time with the devotees. But we were sure to be spending our time only at the dhama areas.

We reached Ahmadabad around 3pm. The temple was closed so we couldn't go for darshan. All temple are closed from 1-4pm. Some kind development always takes place wherever is an Iskcon temple built. Just beside this Ahmadabad temple, there is a mega mall constructed few years back. And guess what it is called: ISCON Mega Mall. You can view pictures of this in the link below.
